Tennessee Tech to Join Southern Conference in 2026, Elevating Golf Programs

Tennessee Tech University will join the Southern Conference on July 1, 2026, moving from the Ohio Valley Conference after 77 years. The addition will expand the SoCon to 11 members, including ETSU, Chattanooga, Furman, Mercer, Samford and others. Fourteen Golden Eagle teams, including men’s and women’s golf, will compete in the new league.

For golf, the transition offers stronger competition and increased exposure across the Southeast. Tech men’s golf won the 2024 OVC Championship, its first since 1990, and advanced to the NCAA Championships. The women’s program has steadily grown under full time leadership since 2021, supported by facility upgrades such as a new short game area.

The Southern Conference’s reputation for competitive depth, academic excellence and high profile championships could enhance recruiting and further the recent success of both programs, positioning Tech golf to contend at a higher level.
