84th Sunnehanna Amateur, Round 3 & 4
Championship golf has been part of Sunnehanna Country Club since 1936 with the Sunnehanna Invitational, which quickly gained prestige by attracting top amateur players, including Arnold Palmer, Julius Boros, and Art Wall.
The event ended in 1951 due to declining interest, but in 1954, club leaders revived championship golf with the Sunnehanna Amateur—the first club-sponsored 72-hole stroke play amateur tournament in the U.S. Unlike the match play format common at the time, this format guaranteed four days of play and paired top-level competition with renowned member hospitality. It soon became a nationally prominent event for the country’s elite amateurs.
