Preston Stout Earns Medalist Honors at U.S. Amateur

Preston Stout secured medalist honors at the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship with an eight-under-par total of 132 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. He opened stroke play with a 67 on the Ocean Course and followed with a 65 on the Lake Course, finishing two shots clear of the field. His performance tied the second-lowest 36-hole score in championship history, one stroke behind the record set by Oklahoma State’s Hayden Wood in 2017.

Stout, a rising junior at Oklahoma State, is the third Cowboy to win U.S. Amateur medalist honors since 1979, joining Bob Tway and Hayden Wood. His teammate Eric Lee advanced to match play at one under par 139, while five other players tied for second at six under par 134.

The stroke play field was cut to the top 64 players for match play, which will determine the champion. All match play rounds will be contested on the Lake Course, culminating with the 36-hole championship match.
