San José State’s Lucia Lopez Ortega Named Mountain West Nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year

San José State’s Lucia Lopez Ortega has been selected as one of two Mountain West nominees for the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which honors graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

From Sa Coma, Mallorca, Spain, Lopez Ortega was the 2025 Mountain West Golfer of the Year and individual champion, winning the conference title at 5-under-par 211. She recorded three top-10 finishes, 11 rounds of par or better, six rounds in the 60s, and a team-best 73.03 stroke average this season.

Her career includes four All-Mountain West selections, NCAA Regional berths in all four years, three NCAA Championship appearances, the 2023 NCAA stroke-play runner-up finish, and Mountain West team titles in 2022 and 2024.

A summa cum laude graduate in biological sciences with a 3.91 GPA, Lopez Ortega earned multiple academic honors and a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She will pursue a master’s degree in biology at San José State.

Her community service includes work as a teaching assistant, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative, volunteer with First Tee and the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative, and hospital volunteer.
