Kiara Romero Wins 2025 McCormack Medal
Kiara Romero, a junior at the University of Oregon, has received the 2025 Mark H. McCormack Medal as the top ranked female amateur golfer in the world. Presented annually by the USGA and The R&A, the award honors the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking at the end of the season.
Romero is the first Oregon golfer to earn the medal. She was National Freshman of the Year in 2023, set the program record for single season scoring average at 70.84, broke the school’s single season birdie record with 118, and led the team to NCAA match play.
Her amateur highlights include winning the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur, making her major debut at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open, and competing in the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
With the medal, Romero earns exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club and the 2026 AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, if she remains an amateur.
