Meja Örtengren Named WGCA Freshman of the Year
Stanford's Meja Örtengren has been honored as the 2025 WGCA Freshman of the Year, capping off a remarkable debut season. The Swedish standout led the Cardinal with a 70.11 scoring average over 28 rounds, securing nine top-10 finishes, including a dominant win at the San Diego State Classic where she shot a program-record 15-under-par.
Örtengren's consistent excellence earned her both ACC Freshman of the Year and All-ACC honors. She played a pivotal role in Stanford's postseason success, finishing third at the NCAA Norman Regional and tying for 10th in stroke play at the NCAA Championship.
Her freshman campaign included 24 rounds at par or better and 10 rounds in the 60s, highlighted by a 62 in the second round of the San Diego State Classic, tying the program record for most strokes under par in a single round.
Örtengren's stellar season places her among Stanford's elite, becoming the fifth Cardinal to receive the WGCA Freshman of the Year award.
