Mason Howell, 17, Earns Spot in 2025 U.S. Open Field
Brookwood High School junior Mason Howell has qualified for the 2025 U.S. Open, continuing a breakout season for one of the nation’s top junior golfers. The 17-year-old from Thomasville, Georgia, delivered back-to-back bogey-free rounds of 63 at final qualifying held at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, finishing at 18-under to tie for medalist honors.
Howell advanced through local qualifying at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Florida, and followed it with one of the most impressive performances of the day during the 36-hole final stage. Already committed to play college golf at the University of Georgia, Howell is currently ranked No. 8 in the AJGA rankings and owns wins at both the 2023 Billy Horschel Junior Championship and the Future Masters.
His performance at Piedmont made him the youngest player to qualify for this year’s championship at Oakmont Country Club, where he’ll now compete against the best in the world from June 12–15.
