Current College Golfers Headed to the 2025 U.S. Open

A dozen current collegiate golfers have officially punched their tickets to the 2025 U.S. Open, set for June 12–15 at Oakmont Country Club. Earning their way through grueling final qualifiers or receiving prestigious amateur exemptions, these student-athletes will now compete on one of the toughest stages in professional golf.

Qualified Collegiate Players:

  • Ben James (University of Virginia): Qualified at Canoe Brook Country Club (NJ) with a 5-under 134.

  • Bryan Lee (University of Virginia): Advanced from Woodmont Country Club (MD) with rounds of 70–69.

  • Jackson Buchanan (University of Illinois): Qualified at Piedmont Driving Club (GA).

  • Jackson Koivun (Auburn University): Advanced through Piedmont Driving Club.

  • Tyler Weaver (Florida State University): Qualified in Atlanta with two steady rounds.

  • Lance Simpson (University of Tennessee): Earned his spot in Dallas, Texas.

  • Cameron Tankersley (Ole Miss): Also qualified in Dallas.

  • Michael La Sasso (Ole Miss): Received an exemption as NCAA Division I individual national champion.

  • Justin Hastings (San Diego State): Qualified via victory at the 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship.

  • Zach Pollo (University of Arizona): Secured a top finish at Valencia Country Club (CA).

  • Preston Summerhays (Arizona State University): Earned one of two spots at Valencia, making his third U.S. Open start.

  • Pongsapak “Fifa” Laopakdee (Arizona State University): Advanced from Albuquerque qualifier at University of New Mexico.

This group brings a diverse mix of experience, skill, and momentum into Oakmont, reinforcing the strength of today’s college golf landscape on the national stage.
