Lance Simpson Extends Lead at Trans-Miss After Record Start at The Pfau Course
Lance Simpson of the University of Tennessee remains in control at the 2025 Trans-Mississippi Amateur after back-to-back rounds of 64 and 67. The Tennessee senior sits at 11 under through 36 holes at The Pfau Course in Bloomington, Indiana, and will take a four-shot advantage into Thursday’s third round.
Simpson, who opened with a tournament-low 64, followed it up with a steady five-under 67 that included six birdies. His ball-striking and pace on the greens have separated him from a tightly packed leaderboard behind him.
Australia’s Declan O’Donovan moved into solo second after posting a 67 of his own, bringing him to 7 under. Three players are tied for third at six under: John Daly II (Arkansas), JP Odland (Santa Clara, and Noah Kent (Florida). Daly II and Kent each shot 68 on Wednesday, while Odland slipped slightly after an opening 65.
Connor Doyal sits alone in sixth at 5 under, followed by four players tied for seventh at 4 under, including LSU’s Noah McWilliams, Rice University’s Daniel Zou, Kansas State’s Cooper Schultz, and Ohio State’s Tyler Sabo.
The 72-hole stroke play event continues Friday with Round Three. A cut will be made after 54 holes.
