Jackson Koivun Named 2025 McCormack Medal Winner

Jackson Koivun, a 20-year-old from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, has been awarded the 2025 Mark H. McCormack Medal as the top male amateur in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The honor secures him exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and The 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Koivun’s freshman season at Auburn University in 2024 was among the best in collegiate golf history. He won the SEC Championship, posted a 3-0 match play record to help Auburn capture its first NCAA team title, and became the first player to sweep the Jack Nicklaus, Fred Haskins, Ben Hogan, and Phil Mickelson Awards in the same season. He also represented the United States in the Arnold Palmer Cup in both 2024 and 2025.

In 2025, Koivun continued to build on that success with victories at the SEC Championship stroke play and NCAA Auburn Regional, along with a runner-up finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship. He made his major debut at the U.S. Open and followed it with top-12 finishes at the John Deere Classic, ISCO Championship, and Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour.

Koivun will represent the United States in the upcoming Walker Cup at Cypress Point and is part of the USGA’s Elite Amateur Program, which supports players during their college years as they prepare for professional careers.

The McCormack Medal is awarded annually by The R&A and the USGA to the leading male and female players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Established in 2007 for men and expanded to women in 2011, the rankings encompass thousands of counting events worldwide and are supported by Rolex. The award honors Mark H. McCormack, the founder of IMG and a major supporter of amateur golf.
