Grewal and Chaisilprungruang Claim Titles at Southwestern Amateur
The 110th Southwestern Amateur concluded at Desert Mountain Club’s Outlaw Course, with Hartej Grewal and Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang emerging as champions in one of amateur golf’s longest-running events.
Men’s Championship
Hartej Grewal, an incoming transfer at the University of Kansas, fired a final round 66 to finish at sixteen under par (272) and win the men’s division. The Pleasanton, California native recorded rounds of 71, 68, 67, and 66 to hold off Matthew Javier of Southern Mississippi, who posted a 67 on Saturday and finished two shots back at 274.
Brandon Knight, representing Colorado, also shot 66 in the final round to secure solo third at 276. A tie for fourth at 278 included Charlie Wylie from TCU and Kentaro Nanayama from Purdue.
Women’s Championship
In the women’s division, Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang, a freshman at the University of Charlotte, secured her first major amateur title with rounds of 73, 68, 69, and 69 to finish at nine under (279). The Thailand native edged out Kaili Xiao, who finished at 281 after a final round 69.
Makayla Tyrrell of Oklahoma and Amy DeKock of Kansas shared third at 282. The women’s championship, in only its second year as part of the event, drew a strong international field and highlighted the growing depth in elite amateur competition.
Final Notes
The Outlaw Course, known for its desert landscape, firm fairways, and challenging elevation changes, tested every part of the players’ games throughout the week. The 72-hole stroke play format once again provided a fair and demanding stage for top collegiate and international amateurs.
