Biermann and Ganne Advance After Extra Hole Thrillers at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Both semifinals of the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes required extra holes on Saturday, a rare occurrence seen only twice before in the event’s history, in 2018 and 1900.

Brooke Biermann, a Michigan State alum from Wildwood, Missouri, defeated Kansas junior Lyla Louderbaugh in 19 holes. The all-Missouri match was close throughout, with Biermann securing the win on the first extra hole. Louderbaugh had been looking to become the first left-handed champion in tournament history.

In the other semifinal, Stanford senior Megha Ganne of Holmdel, New Jersey, outlasted Ella Scaysbrook of Australia, also in 19 holes. Ganne, ranked No. 11 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, earned her place in the final for the first time since reaching the semifinals as a teenager in 2019.

Biermann and Ganne will compete Sunday in the 36 hole championship match at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, beginning at 9:45 a.m. PST. Golf Channel will provide live coverage from 3 to 6 p.m. EST.
