125th Women’s Western Amateur Heads to Red Run Golf Club
The 125th Women’s Western Amateur takes place July 14–19 at Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak, Michigan. Today, players are participating in practice rounds and final preparations before official competition begins Tuesday, July 15, with the opening round of stroke play.
This is the first time the championship will be held at Red Run, a club founded in 1914 that has hosted notable events, including the 1958 Western Open and 2016 Western Junior. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow and Willie Park Jr., and is regarded as one of Michigan’s premier private venues.
Established in 1901, the Women’s Western Amateur is one of the oldest and most prestigious events in women’s amateur golf. It is conducted annually by the Women’s Western Golf Association.
The format includes 36 holes of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday. The top 32 players advance to match play, which continues from Thursday through Saturday, with the championship match set for July 19.
Farah O’Keefe of Texas, ranked seventh in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, returns to defend her title. Jasmine Koo, now a member of the USC women’s golf team, won the 2023 championship and remains one of the event’s standout recent winners.
The tournament’s history includes several notable champions who went on to successful professional careers, including Patty Berg, Louise Suggs, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lang, and Ariya Jutanugarn.
