Watts and Wang Lead Before Weather Delay at North & South Amateur

Round two of the 123rd Women’s and 125th Men’s North & South Amateur Championships was suspended Wednesday afternoon due to weather at Pinehurst Resort, with several players still on the course. Before the delay, both leaderboards saw major shifts during play on Pinehurst No. 4 and No. 7.

In the women’s championship on Pinehurst No. 4, Zi Ge Wang of Northwestern and China posted rounds of 72 and 67 to grab a share of the lead at five under par (139). She is tied with Macy Pate of Wake Forest and the United States, and Megha Ganne of Stanford and the United States, both at five under through 15 holes.

Just one shot back at four under are Amelie Zalsman of Duke and Pimchompoo Chaisilpruang of UNC Charlotte. Close behind at three under are Grace Kilcrease of Oklahoma State and Ava Merrill of Vanderbilt.

On the men’s side at Pinehurst No. 7, Tyler Watts, a University of Tennessee commit from the United States, holds the solo lead at six under par. Gabriel Palacios of the University of Utah and Guatemala and William Jennings of the University of Alabama and the United States are tied for second at five under after rounds of 69 and 67.

Play will resume Thursday morning to complete round two.
