U.S. Amateur Finals Preview

Mason Howell and Jackson Herrington advanced to the U.S. Amateur Championship final after winning their semifinal matches Saturday at The Olympic Club.

Howell, competing in his first U.S. Amateur, defeated Eric Lee 3 and 2. As the 63 seed, he is one win away from joining Steven Fox in 2012 as the only 63 seeds to capture the title. Earlier this summer Howell earned medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur at Trinity Forest and qualified for the U.S. Open by shooting 63-63 in a Georgia qualifier.

Herrington, a Tennessee junior, edged Niall Shiels Donegan 1 up, clinching the match on the final green.

By reaching the final, both Howell and Herrington secured exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Open and likely invitations to the 2026 Masters. The winner will also earn a place on the U.S. Walker Cup team, which begins in three weeks at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach.

The two will meet Sunday in a 36 hole final with the Havemeyer Trophy on the line.
