Tyler Watts Sets Course Record with 62 in Round One at Western Amateur

Tyler Watts opened the 123rd Western Amateur at Skokie Country Club with a record-setting 8 under 62 to take the solo lead after Round One in Glencoe, Illinois. The Alabama native and University of Tennessee commit carded nine birdies, including six on the front nine, to post the lowest competitive round in Skokie’s history.

Watts leads a stacked leaderboard that includes three players tied for second at 6 under. Jase Summy (Oklahoma), William Sides (SMU), and Jacob Modleski (Notre Dame) each posted 64.

Vanderbilt’s Wells Williams is alone in fifth at 5 under. North Carolina’s Carson Bertagnole and Cincinnati’s Connor McNeely are tied for sixth at 65. Auburn’s Josiah Gilbert, Purdue’s Kent Hsiao, and Canadian amateur Garrett Rank round out the top 10 at 4 under.
