Quarterfinal Matchups Set at Women’s Western Amateur
The final eight is set at the 125th Women’s Western Amateur at Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak, Michigan. After two rounds of match play, these players have advanced to the quarterfinals.
Brooke Biermann (Michigan State) vs. Pimkwan Chookaew (Iowa State)
Biermann defeated Grace Kilcrease of Oklahoma State 2 and 1 in the Round of 32, then upset defending champion Farah O’Keefe of Texas 5 and 4.
Chookaew opened with a 6 and 5 win over Jazy Roberts and followed with a 2 up victory over Ella Scaysbrook.
Huai-Chien Hsu (Texas) vs. Elizabeth Rudisill (Vanderbilt)
Hsu advanced with a 3 and 2 win over Yijia Ren and took down Honorine Nobuta Ferry 3 and 1 in the Round of 16.
Rudisill survived extra holes against Addison Klonowski of Florida in the opening round and edged Taylor Kehoe of Michigan State 1 up to reach the quarterfinals.
Elise Lee (USC) vs. Maelynn Kim (Houston)
Lee posted a 4 and 3 win over Olivia Duan of Princeton and followed with a dominant 5 and 4 victory against Megan Streicher of North Carolina.
Kim advanced over Macy Pate of Wake Forest in extra holes and then defeated Kary Hollenbaugh of Ohio State 4 and 2.
Emma Schimpf (College of Charleston) vs. Kylee Choi (Pepperdine)
Schimpf defeated Sydney Roberts of Clemson 2 and 1 and held off Kaitlyn Zermeño Smith of Cal State Fullerton 1 up.
Choi cruised past Casey Weidenfeld of Wake Forest 5 and 3 before knocking out Ashleen Kaur of Miami 4 and 2.
Quarterfinal matches continue Friday morning at Red Run.
