NCAA DI Men's Golf Championship Preview

The 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship is set to commence on Friday, May 23, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Hosted by the University of Texas, the tournament will feature 30 teams and 6 individual qualifiers competing over six days to crown both team and individual national champions.

Championship Format

  • Stroke Play: All teams will participate in 54 holes of stroke play from May 23 to May 25. Following this, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and the top nine individuals not on an advancing team. These competitors will play an additional 18 holes on May 26 to determine the individual champion and the eight teams advancing to match play.

  • Match Play: The top eight teams will compete in quarterfinal and semifinal matches on May 27, with the championship match scheduled for May 28.

    Qualified Teams and Individuals

Teams and individuals earned their spots through six regional tournaments held from May 12 to May 14. The 30 teams advancing to the championship are:

  • Amherst Regional: Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Pepperdine

  • Urbana Regional: Illinois, Oklahoma State, UNLV, Troy, Texas Tech

  • Auburn Regional: Auburn, Texas A&M, UCLA, Purdue, Georgia Tech

  • Bremerton Regional: Florida, Arizona State, Colorado, South Florida, South Carolina

  • Reno Regional: BYU, Virginia, Texas, San Diego, California

  • Tallahassee Regional: Florida State, Ole Miss, New Mexico, Georgia, Augusta

The six individual qualifiers are:

  • Sakke Siltala (Texas State)

  • Hunter Thomson (Michigan)

  • Claes Borregaard (Kennesaw State)

  • Braxton Watts (Utah)

  • Bryan Kim (Duke)

  • Jacob Modleski (Notre Dame)

Course Details

The tournament will be played on the North Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, a par-72 course measuring 7,538 yards. The course, recently redesigned by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, offers a challenging layout that will test the skill and resilience of collegiate golfers.
