Mackenzie Lee Triumphs at Pinehurst & Carlos Astiazaran Takes Men’s Title in Playoff

Women’s Final Recap

Mackenzie Lee, an incoming senior of Southern Methodist University captured the 2025 North & South Women’s Amateur title at Pinehurst No. 2 with a steady 2 and 1 win over Australia’s Jazy Roberts.

Lee took a 2-up lead at the turn and never relinquished control, closing the match on the 17th hole with a composed par. She reached the final after a 3 and 2 semifinal win over Amelie Zalsman. Roberts earned her spot with a dominant 5 and 4 win over Jie‑En Lin.

Lee’s final-round 65 was her lowest of the week, capping off a strong performance and her first North & South title.


Men’s Final Recap

Carlos Astiazaran an incoming junior  of Vanderbilt University emerged victorious in a sudden-death playoff over Tyler Watts to win the 2025 North & South Men’s Amateur title.

Watts controlled much of the match early and held a 1-up lead after the front nine. Astiazaran closed the gap on the back nine with a steady 32, tying the match at 67 after 18 holes. On the first playoff hole, Astiazaran delivered a decisive birdie to secure the title.

Astiazaran reached the final after defeating Reed Lotter 4 and 3 in the semifinals. Watts advanced with a 4 and 3 victory over Kihei Akina.
