Koivun, James, and La Sasso Secure First Three Spots on 2025 USA Walker Cup Team
The United States Golf Association has named Jackson Koivun, Ben James, and Michael La Sasso to the ten‑man USA squad for the 50th Walker Cup, set for September 6–7, 2025, at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California.
These amateurs earned their places as the top three Americans in the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of today. Koivun, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, ranks number one, followed by James, of Milford, Connecticut, and La Sasso, from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Koivun, ranked first in the world, is a rising junior at Auburn University, won the Haskins Award as top collegiate golfer, and was first‑team All‑American and SEC Player of the Year; he also contributed to Auburn’s first NCAA championship.
James, ranked second in the world, is a junior and a three‑time first‑team All‑American at the University of Virginia and led the Cavaliers to second place in the NCAA Championship. He was also part of the winning 2023 USA Walker Cup team and played in the 2023 and 2024 Palmer Cups.
La Sasso, ranked third in the world, is a junior and represents Ole Miss after transferring from North Carolina State. Claimed the NCAA Division I individual title in May and led his team with a 69.51 stroke average. He earned All‑American honours and competed in the Palmer Cup.
Further team members will be selected by the USGA International Team Selection working group, with automatic spots going to the winner of the 2025 U.S. Amateur (August 11–17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco) and the American recipient of the McCormack Medal.
The Walker Cup Match, a biennial amateur competition between the USA and Great Britain & Ireland, will mark its 50th edition at Cypress Point. The venue last hosted the event in 1981, when the USA prevailed 15–9.
