King and Hughes Set for Kansas Amateur Final at Firekeeper

Will King of Olathe and Nathan Hughes of Prairie Village will face off Sunday in the championship match of the Kansas Amateur at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta.

King, a current player at the University of Kansas, advanced with a 5 and 4-quarterfinal win over Tyler Walker of the University of Nebraska Omaha. He then edged Kansas State’s Cooper Schultz in 19 holes in the semifinals.

Hughes, a Prairie Village, Kansas native, delivered back-to-back dominant performances Saturday. He defeated Jack Courington of Missouri State 6 and 4 in the quarterfinals, then took down Noah Holtzman of Kansas 6 and 5 in the semifinals.

Both players will compete Sunday for the state’s top amateur title.
