Gubenko Shoots 62 to Grab Early Lead at Porter Cup

Nikita Gubenko of Great Falls, Virginia opened the 2025 Porter Cup with a blistering 8-under 62 on Wednesday at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, New York. The George Mason alum’s round was the lowest of the day by three shots, placing him atop the leaderboard after round one.

Australia’s Coby Carruthers sits in solo second after carding a 5-under 65. Three players share third at 4-under: Ryan Hart (United States), Abel Eduard (Australia), and Jye Halls (Australia). Four more players finished at 3-under 67 to round out the top 10: Blake Phillips (Australia), Matthew Javier (Canada), Boyd Owens (United States), and Nolan Haynes (United States). Two Canadians, Eddie Gu and Zachary Smith, are tied for tenth at 2-under.

The 72-hole stroke play event continues Thursday as players chase one of amateur golf’s longest-running titles.
