Gross Fires 63 to Lead State Open of Virginia After Round One

Larkin Gross of Westwood Country Club surged to the top of the leaderboard with a bogey-free 63 to take the solo lead after round one of the State Open of Virginia at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.

Gross, a PGA professional, carded seven birdies to post the low round of the day. One shot behind is amateur Robb Kinder of Williamsburg Golf Club, who fired a 64 to sit in solo second.

A crowded tie for third at three under includes five amateurs and one professional: Scott Shingler (Dominion Valley), Drew Brockwell (The Highlands), Adam Hooker (Glenrochie), Steve Serrao (Willow Oaks), and Luca Rinaldi (Salisbury), alongside professional Joey Lane.

Alex Hoffman of Columbia Country Club and amateur Talon Dingledine of Stonehenge round out the top ten at two under.
