From Walk-On to Champion: Caleb Bond Wins Michigan Amateur
Caleb Bond of Michigan State claimed the 114th Michigan Amateur Championship with a statement victory at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix. The Williamston native defeated PJ Maybank in the 18-hole final, capping off a dominant week in his home state.
Bond entered match play as the top seed after shooting a two-round total of 130 in stroke play, setting a new tournament record at Belvedere. He rolled through the bracket with commanding wins over Andrew Tindall and Bryce Wheeler before closing out Maybank in the final.
The win earns Bond an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship. It also marks another highlight in a breakout year for the rising junior, who finished runner-up at the Big Ten Championship and led Michigan State with several top-10 finishes this spring.
Bond’s climb from walk-on to state champion reflects both his steady improvement and his growing impact on the Spartans' roster.
