College Golf Coaches Can Begin Contacting 2027 Recruits

June 15 marked a key milestone in the recruiting calendar for college golf. As of that date, NCAA Division I and Division II coaches are permitted to begin direct communication with prospective student-athletes in the Class of 2027—current high school sophomores entering their junior year this fall.

Under NCAA rules, this is the first day coaches can:

  • Send direct messages to recruits

  • Initiate phone calls, texts, or emails

  • Extend verbal offers or invite unofficial visits

  • Begin scheduling official visits (starting August 1 of junior year)

For many junior golfers, June 15 represents the first step in formalizing interest from college programs. While some athletes may have been on coaches’ radar through tournament performance or social media exposure, this date officially opens the door to two-way recruiting conversations.

What It Means for Recruits

Student-athletes in the 2027 class should be prepared to:

  • Check email and voicemail regularly

  • Respond professionally to outreach from coaches

  • Maintain updated tournament schedules and résumés

  • Use this time to build relationships, ask questions, and evaluate program fit

While not every recruit will hear from coaches immediately, the summer months ahead are critical for establishing contact, scheduling visits, and exploring scholarship opportunities.

This rule applies to both men's and women's golf at the NCAA Division I and II levels. Coaches at Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA programs operate under different timelines and may already be in touch with younger players.
