Interview Takeaways with CGN

Path into golf
Blake grew up around the game, first hitting balls at an aqua range in Florida. Early work with his dad led to coaching from Gary Murphy in Greenwich, then Jason Carbone in New Jersey, and now Matt Wilson. He stresses that swing changes take time and that sticking with a plan through the ugly phase matters.

Junior and high school years
A steady competitor across New Jersey and the Metropolitan Golf Association, he broke through after graduation by winning the Met Junior and the Carter Cup in back to back weeks.

Choosing Georgetown
He prioritized top academics and competitive golf to keep career doors open in areas like finance or medicine. The team culture and tight group at Georgetown were deciding factors.

Freshman adjustment
Arriving just days before classes, he learned to manage a full load quickly. A demanding high school schedule with four AP classes helped him adapt to college demands.

Performance jump
A summer of work with the putter began to pay off late in the fall and carried into spring. Pairing improved putting with better iron play produced top finishes and wins. He cites a come from behind victory at the New Jersey State Amateur with his younger brother on the bag as a key confidence boost.

Mindset
He focuses on the next shot and accepts that he cannot control competitors. The aim is strong preparation and full commitment to each swing.

Family
He credits his parents and siblings for support. His brother also plays golf in high school and his sister plays lacrosse at Denison University.
