2025 British Amateur Championship Preview

The 130th Amateur Championship gets underway June 16 at Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports in Kent, England. The field of 288 players from more than 35 countries will compete over 36 holes of stroke play before entering match play.

Notable Competitors

  • Tommy Morrison – University of Texas, United States. Ranked number five in the world amateur standings, he won the 2024 European Amateur Championship and played in the 2024 Open Championship.

  • Christiaan Maas – University of Pretoria, South Africa. Currently ranked number four globally, he arrives with extensive links experience.

  • Connor Graham – University of St Andrews, Scotland. Ranked 47th in the world, he was the stroke‑play medalist in 2024.

  • Dominic Clemons – England. Ranked 44th in WAGR, he reached the 2024 final and is among the favorites.

  • Rising international contenders:

    • Lev Grinberg (Ukraine, WAGR 110)

    • Jye Halls (Australia, WAGR 568)

    • Pablo Alperi López (Spain, WAGR 319)

      Course Conditions

Royal St George’s is a traditional links layout noted for firm, fast fairways and deep bunkering. Critical holes include the dogleg par‑4 8th and long par‑4 15th, where precision and adaptability to wind are essential.
