Stanford’s Paula Martin Sampedro earned low amateur honors at the 2026 AIG Women’s Open for the second consecutive year, claiming the Smyth Salver after finishing at 4 over par at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
The Spaniard opened the championship with rounds of 69 and 71 before carding a 76 in the third round and a final round 72 to finish tied for 29th. She was one of only two amateurs to make the cut, alongside South Korea’s Yunseo Yang, who finished tied for 54th.
Martin Sampedro became the first player since Jeeno Thitikul in 2018 and 2019 to win the Smyth Salver in consecutive years. She also became the fifth player to earn the award on multiple occasions since it was introduced in 1979.
Ranked No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Martin Sampedro captured the Smyth Salver for the second straight year after earning the honor during her championship debut in 2025. She is expected to return to Stanford for her senior season following the summer.
