Northwestern Captures First NCAA DI Women’s Golf Championship

Northwestern University made program history on Wednesday, winning its first-ever NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship with a dramatic 3–2 victory over top-seeded Stanford at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.

The match came down to the final hole between Northwestern senior Dianna Lee and Stanford’s Andrea Revuelta. Lee sealed the championship with a par on the 18th to win her match 1-up and clinch the deciding point for the Wildcats.

Earlier in the final, Northwestern's Elise Lee and Hsin Tai Lin delivered key wins, while Stanford’s Kelly Xu and Meja Ortengren countered with victories of their own, setting up the winner-take-all final pairing.

Northwestern entered the match play bracket as the No. 6 seed after finishing sixth in stroke play. The Wildcats defeated Texas A&M and Arizona in the quarterfinals and semifinals before pulling off the upset over Stanford, which was seeking its second NCAA title in three years.

The championship caps a historic run for head coach Emily Fletcher and a senior-led Northwestern squad that delivered when it mattered most.
