Michael La Sasso Claims NCAA Individual Title, Reflects on Journey in CGN Interview

Michael La Sasso of Ole Miss captured the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Championship at Omni La Costa, posting a final-round 67 to secure the title and deliver a historic moment for the Rebels. His steady play throughout the week helped Ole Miss clinch a berth in the team match play portion of the championship.

La Sasso, a junior, has emerged as one of the top players in college golf this season, earning All-SEC and PING All-Region honors while making the Haskins Award Watch List. His win in Carlsbad marked a career-defining performance and the first NCAA individual title in program history.

Earlier this spring, we at CGN had the opportunity to sit down with La Sasso for an in-depth interview. He spoke candidly about his path to college golf—starting in baseball, picking up golf later than most, and ultimately falling in love with the sport’s attention to detail. He credited his parents and swing coach Chase Duncan for shaping his development, and spoke with maturity about the lessons he learned during his time at NC State before transferring to Ole Miss.

A key theme from our interview was La Sasso’s emphasis on mental toughness and perspective. He spoke about using gratitude to reset after mistakes, staying grounded during competition, and leaning on preparation and experience as competitive advantages.

With his NCAA title now secured, La Sasso’s summer schedule includes elite amateur events and final qualifying for the U.S. Open. His win solidifies his standing among the game’s top collegiate players—and based on what we learned in our conversation with him, it’s clear he’s just getting started.
