GCAA Extends Deadline for Ron Balicki Scholarship Nominations to March, 14th

The GCAA has extended its deadline to accept nominations for the Ron Balicki Scholarship to March 14th. The recipient of this award will receive two $2,500 scholarships—one per semester. The requirements for applicants include:

  • A minimum of three and a maximum of five samples of media work

  • Two letters of recommendation from a journalist, English teacher, or media professor

  • A 300-word essay on why the applicant is applying for the Ron Balicki Scholarship

  • A current transcript (official not required)

Past winners of the Ron Balicki Scholarship include Luke Hendry (University of Texas), Tracy Peyton (Palm Beach Atlantic University), Brayden Conover (University of Oklahoma), Cade Tjomsland (Palm Beach Atlantic University), Alex Gelman (Arizona State University), Carson Racich (Florida Gulf Coast University), and Ben Parris (Arizona State University).

Balicki pioneered coverage of college golf at Golfweek in 1983 and became an integral part of the college and amateur game. He won three first-place awards from the Texas Golf Writers Association and was also the recipient of the Golf Writers Association of America’s Jimmy D’Angelo Award and the Northwest Florida Sports Association’s Al Byrne Award—both of which recognize individuals for their contributions, dedication, and service to their organization and community.
