Filip Jakubčík Wins European Amateur, Qualifies for Open Championship
Filip Jakubčík, an incoming senior at the University of Arizona, captured the 2025 European Amateur Championship at Vasatorp Golfklubb in Sweden, becoming the first Czech player to win the prestigious title. He carded rounds of 71, 69, 73, and 67 to finish at 18 under par, five shots ahead of Denmark’s Kristian Bressum, a recent East Tennessee State graduate.
With the win, Jakubčík secures a spot in the 2025 British Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where he’ll join former Arizona teammate Tiger Christensen as an Arizona Wildcat to compete in that major.
Jakubčík entered the final round with the lead and came through under pressure, tallying five birdies and only one bogey. He played in every tournament for Arizona during the 2024–25 season, earning six top-10 finishes, including a victory at the Western Intercollegiate.
