Fifa Laopakdee Wins Asia Pacific Amateur to Earn Masters and Open Berths
Arizona State junior Fifa Laopakdee captured the 2025 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai, becoming the first Thai player to win the event since it began in 2010. The victory secured invitations to the 2026 Masters and The Open Championship.
Laopakdee shot a 4 under 68 in the final round at Emirates Golf Club to erase a six shot deficit and defeated Japan’s Taisei Nagasaki on the third playoff hole. His closing stretch featured five consecutive birdies, including two to finish regulation and three during the playoff.
Nagasaki led by five early in the round and produced key birdies on holes 16 and 17 but missed a short putt to win on 18, finishing tied with Laopakdee at 15 under. Both players matched birdies on the first two playoff holes before Laopakdee sealed the win with an up and down birdie on the 18th.
The victory marks the second straight Asia Pacific Amateur title for an Arizona State golfer after Wenyi Ding’s win in 2024. Laopakdee adds this to an already strong college record that includes wins at the 2025 Thunderbird Collegiate and 2023 Maui Jim Intercollegiate, along with top finishes at the 2025 Cabo Collegiate and 2024 Papago Individual.
