Deakins Wins 23rd Women’s Met Amateur Championship at Sunningdale
Olivia Deakins captured the 23rd Women’s Met Amateur Championship at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, New York, becoming the first champion since the event expanded to a 54-hole format. The University of Minnesota golfer entered Tuesday’s final two rounds five shots off the lead and posted scores of 69 and 71 to win by two strokes.
Deakins made the turn in 34 during her second round of the day, birdied the par-four 12th, and parred her final six holes to hold off the field. She finished with a total score of 210. Her comeback was the largest in event history since scoring records were introduced in 2015.
The format change, implemented by the MGA this year, added a third round to enhance competitive depth. Deakins capitalized, becoming the only player to shoot under par in multiple rounds on Tuesday. Her closing 71 was tied for the second-lowest round of the final 18.
