University of Richmond junior Maya Beasley has emerged as a leader for the Spiders, combining consistent tournament results with academic excellence. A Pinehurst resident and former standout at The O’Neal School, Beasley has built one of the best scoring averages in program history while helping Richmond capture an Atlantic 10 Championship.

  • Medalist at the 2025 Tribe Invitational (+1), leading Richmond to the team title by 31 strokes

Path into golf
Originally from New York, Beasley moved to Pinehurst during high school to pursue year-round golf opportunities. She described her time at a golf academy and eventual relocation as the turning points in her development.

Role models
Beasley credited Duke alum and Epson Tour winner Anna Balok as a key influence, offering mentorship and course management advice during her high school years.

Mindset
She emphasized resilience and perspective when facing challenges on the course, noting the importance of deep breaths, confidence, and remembering that golf does not solely define her identity.

Why Richmond
Beasley chose Richmond after considering larger programs, citing academics, the welcoming team culture, and the leadership of head coach Cali, a former All-American at Virginia. She said the campus immediately felt like home.

Team and personal goals
Beasley expressed confidence in the Spiders’ ability to contend again in the Atlantic 10, with an emphasis on competing at regionals against top programs. Personally, she aims to continue building confidence and perform well in bigger events.

Off the course
Known for her strong academic record, Beasley was salutatorian of her high school class and a Cum Laude Society member. She balances golf with academics and community service, including fundraising through a 100-hole event for breast cancer awareness.
