Preview: Augusta Haskins Award Invitational Brings Elite Field to Forest Hills
One of college golf’s premier spring events returns this weekend as Augusta University hosts the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, set for April 5–6 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. With a deep field and one of the game’s most iconic backdrops, the tournament continues to blend high-level competition with an unforgettable Masters Week atmosphere.
A Field Loaded with Contenders
The 14-team field includes some of the top programs in the country: No. 6 North Carolina, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Arizona, and No. 12 Illinois are among the headliners. Georgia Southern, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and host Augusta University round out a strong mix of Power Five and mid-major contenders.
"This event has become one of the most competitive in college golf," said Augusta head coach Jack O’Keefe. "It’s a great test with a great reward — the energy this week always feels different."
More Than a Trophy on the Line
The individual medalist earns an exemption into the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship, giving college players a rare opportunity to tee it up in a professional event. Teams will also get to attend a Masters practice round on Monday — a fitting close to a week steeped in tradition.
A Classic Venue, Updated for Today’s Game
Forest Hills Golf Club, originally a Donald Ross design, recently underwent significant renovation following damage from Hurricane Helene. Among the updates are all-new greens and reshaped complexes that will challenge players across all phases of their game.
“The updates provide a more consistent and challenging test,” said O’Keefe. “It’s the perfect setup to evaluate the best in college golf.”
Honoring the Game’s Best
The event honors the legacy of the Fred Haskins Award, which recognizes the top male collegiate golfer each year. Voted on by players, coaches, and media, the award has been won by the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Justin Thomas, and Ludvig Åberg. The tournament serves as a key proving ground for contenders eyeing a place on that prestigious list.
What to Watch
With a strong field, a retooled course, and the buzz of Masters Week in the air, the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational promises to deliver another high-caliber showcase. Expect elite ball striking, pressure-packed moments, and perhaps a breakout performance with PGA Tour implications.
