Carla Bernat Escuder Makes History at Augusta National Women’s Amateur
Kansas State senior Carla Bernat Escuder put together a week to remember, becoming the first Spanish woman to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on Saturday.
She started the final round one shot back but quickly flipped the script with a birdie on the par-five 8th—and never gave up the lead. Her 4-under 68 at Augusta National sealed the deal, capping off a record-setting week where she became the first player in tournament history to shoot all three rounds in the 60s.
After the win, she was greeted by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal—one Spanish great welcoming another.
Before transferring to Kansas State, Bernat Escuder played two seasons at Tulane, where she was named the 2023 AAC Golfer of the Year. At K-State, she’s continued to raise the bar, becoming the first women’s golfer in program history to earn All-America honors.
With this win on one of golf’s biggest amateur stages, she’s closing out her college career in style.
