The quarterfinal field is set at the 126th Women’s Western Amateur after Thursday’s Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Co medalist Raya Nakao of Oregon State continued her strong week by defeating North Florida’s Kaitlyn Schroeder, 2 and 1, before eliminating USC commit Kaili Xiao, 4 and 3. Nakao will face Northwestern’s Rebecca Wang, who advanced with a 4 and 3 victory over Kentucky’s C.A. Carter and a 1 up win against LSU’s Raegan Denton.
On the bottom half of the bracket, Pepperdine’s Kylee Choi earned a 2 and 1 victory over Emilia Doran before defeating Alabama commit Alli Wiertel, 4 and 2, to reach the quarterfinals.
Stanford’s Anna Song also advanced in dominant fashion, defeating Florida State’s Alexandra Gazzoli, 6 and 5, in the Round of 32 before knocking off Mia Clausen, 5 and 3, in the Round of 16. Song will meet Choi in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Kentucky’s Cathryn Brown secured a place in the final eight with a 2 and 1 victory over Nichakorn Pinprayoon in the Round of 32 followed by a 3 and 1 win over Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang. Brown will take on Wake Forest commit Amelie Zalsman, who survived a 22 hole match against Texas’ Bentley Cotton before defeating Oregon State’s Kate Nakaoka, 4 and 3.
The final quarterfinal pairing features Gonzaga’s Grace Lee and Princeton’s Sarah Lim. Lee earned victories of 4 and 3 over Scarlett Schremmer and 4 and 2 over Ryan Flynn, while Lim defeated Ningyao Xu, 6 and 5, before posting a 3 and 2 win over Jaclyn LaHa.
Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be contested Friday, with the championship match scheduled for Saturday morning.
