Former Eastern Michigan golfer Stuart Grehan captured the East of Ireland Men’s Amateur Open Championship after finishing at 17 under par at County Louth Golf Club in Ireland.
Grehan posted rounds of 70, 69, 67, and 65 to earn a six shot victory and secure his second East of Ireland title after previously winning the event in 2015. His 271 total established a new championship scoring record.
The County Louth member entered the final round with a six shot lead and closed the tournament with another 65, matching the lowest round of the week. Grehan also recorded a hole in one on the par 3 17th during the final round.
Caolan Rafferty finished second at 11 under par after rounds of 72, 71, 69, and 65. Gerard Dunne and Joshua Hill tied for third at 7 under.
Defending champion David Howard tied for 17th at 1 over par.
The victory continues a strong stretch for Grehan since returning to elite amateur competition, adding to previous wins at the Irish Men’s Amateur Open Championship and Irish Men’s Amateur Close Championship.
