Raya Nakao of Oregon State, Rachel Lee of Australia, and Kylee Choi of Pepperdine shared medalist honors after 36 holes of stroke play at the 126th Women’s Western Amateur at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Nakao posted rounds of 68 and 70, Lee rebounded from an opening 72 with a tournament low 6 under 66, and Choi recorded rounds of 70 and 68 as all three players finished at 6 under 138 to earn co medalist honors entering match play.
Grace Lee, a Gonzaga alumna, and Virginia’s Jaclyn LaHa finished one stroke back in a tie for fourth at 5 under 139.
Mia Clausen and Charlotte’s Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang tied for sixth at 4 under 140. Chaisilprungruang held the first round lead after an opening 66 before closing stroke play with a 74.
Kentucky’s C.A. Carter, Vanderbilt’s Angelina Tolentino, and Iowa State’s Nichakorn Pinprayoon rounded out the top 10 in a tie for eighth at 3 under 141.
With stroke play complete, the low 32 players advanced to match play, which begins Thursday with the Round of 32 followed by the Round of 16 at River Forest Country Club.
