The 122nd Trans Mississippi Amateur Championship is set for July 7 through 10 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where 144 of the world’s top amateur golfers will compete in one of the nation’s longest running amateur championships.
Founded in 1901, the Trans Mississippi Amateur has been contested continuously for more than a century and serves as the fourth event on the Elite Amateur Golf Series schedule. The championship features 72 holes of stroke play, with the field reduced to the low 54 players and ties after 36 holes.
Southern Hills will host the championship for the fourth time after previously welcoming the event in 1940, 1968, and 2014. Designed by Perry Maxwell and later restored by Gil Hanse, the course has also hosted eight men’s major championships, including the 2022 PGA Championship.
The championship has produced many of the game’s top players, including Jack Nicklaus, Ben Crenshaw, Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, and Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris captured the 2014 Trans Mississippi Amateur at Southern Hills before returning to the course in 2022 to finish runner up at the PGA Championship.
The tournament transitioned to a 72 hole stroke play format in 2010, expanding the field to include leading collegiate players and mid amateurs. It became a founding member of the Elite Amateur Golf Series in 2021.
Lance Simpson claimed the 2025 championship at the Pfau Course at Indiana University with a 17 under total of 267 before turning professional, ensuring a new champion will be crowned this week.
In addition to the championship trophy, the winner will earn an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Amateur, five years of exempt status into the Trans Mississippi Amateur, and valuable Elite Amateur Golf Series points.
Practice rounds and player registration are scheduled for July 6 before the championship begins July 7 with play starting from the first and 10th tees.
