Stanford Caps Dominant Season With NCAA Women’s Golf Championship Victory Over USC

Stanford captured the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship on Wednesday at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California, defeating USC in the match play final to secure the program’s fourth national championship and third title in the last five seasons.

The Cardinal entered match play as the top seed after finishing 22 under during stroke play, 13 shots ahead of second place USC. Stanford advanced through the bracket with victories over Pepperdine and Eastern Michigan before defeating the Trojans in the championship match.

Meja Ortengren gave Stanford an early advantage with a 6 and 5 victory over USC’s Jasmine Koo. Paula Martin Sampedro followed with a 4 and 2 win against Catherine Park to move the Cardinal within one point of the title.

Senior Megha Ganne clinched the championship with a 4 and 3 victory over Bailey Shoemaker in the final collegiate match of her Stanford career. Ganne also secured the deciding point for Stanford during the semifinal round against Eastern Michigan.

Stanford did not trail in any of the five championship matches at the turn. Ortengren built a five hole lead through the front nine, while Ganne moved ahead early and maintained control throughout the match.

Two matches remained unfinished once Stanford secured the required three points. USC’s Kylie Chong was 1 up against Andrea Revuelta through 18 holes, while Stanford’s Kelly Xu held a 1 up lead over Elise Lee through 16 holes.

The victory also completed a historic season for Stanford, which became the first ACC program in the match play era to win both the ACC Championship and NCAA Championship in the same season. The Cardinal were also the only team to finish under par during stroke play alongside USC.
