Farah O’Keefe Captures NCAA Individual Title for Texas

Texas junior Farah O’Keefe won the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf individual national championship after finishing at 12 under par at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.

O’Keefe posted rounds of 69, 69, 68, and 70 to secure a two shot victory over Stanford’s Megha Ganne, who finished second at 10 under. Duke’s Rianne Malixi placed third at 9 under, while Southern California’s Catherine Park finished fourth at 8 under.

The victory marked O’Keefe’s fourth win of the season and made her the third player in Texas women’s golf history to win an NCAA individual title, joining Charlotta Sorenstam and Heather Bowie.

O’Keefe finished under par in all four rounds of stroke play and closed the championship with birdies on holes 17 and 18 during the final round. She also earned an exemption into the U.S. Women’s Open with the victory.

Texas advanced to NCAA match play after tying Arkansas for third place in the team standings at 1 over par. The Longhorns earned the No. 4 seed following the tiebreaker.

Earlier this season, O’Keefe earned low amateur honors at the Chevron Championship and was named a finalist for both the ANNIKA Award and WGCA Player of the Year honors. She is also scheduled to compete this summer in the Curtis Cup and Palmer Cup.

O’Keefe has now recorded top 10 finishes in all 11 collegiate starts this season. Additional coverage also noted that Texas was the only program to offer her during the recruiting process before she developed into the nation’s top ranked player.
