Georgia Tech Hires Oklahoma’s Ryan Hybl as Next Men’s Golf Head Coach

Georgia Tech has named Oklahoma head coach Ryan Hybl as the next leader of its men’s golf program, the school announced Thursday.

Hybl becomes just the fifth head coach in program history and replaces longtime coach Bruce Heppler, who retired after 31 seasons leading the Yellow Jackets.

A Georgia native, Hybl arrives after 17 seasons at Oklahoma, where he guided the Sooners to 51 tournament victories, 15 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, seven NCAA match play appearances, and the 2017 NCAA national title.

Oklahoma also captured three Big 12 Championships under Hybl in 2018, 2022, and 2023.

The Sooners earned at least one All America selection in 14 of Hybl’s first 16 seasons, while multiple teams finished among the nation’s top programs during his tenure.

In 2021 and 2022, Oklahoma reached the NCAA Championship match play stage, including a runner up finish in 2021. The 2021 to 22 squad won seven tournaments and spent the spring ranked No. 1 nationally.

This season, Oklahoma added two more tournament victories, including the NCAA Corvallis Regional title by 20 shots.

Before Oklahoma, Hybl spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Georgia, helping the Bulldogs win two SEC Championships and produce 18 All Americans.

As a player at Georgia from 2000 to 2004, Hybl earned All America honors twice and recorded 13 top 10 finishes during his collegiate career.
