Old Dominion Names Austin Phillips Head Men’s Golf Coach

Old Dominion announced the hiring of Austin Phillips as the program’s new men’s golf head coach. Phillips arrives in Norfolk after spending the past three seasons leading the North Alabama men’s golf program.

During his time at North Alabama, Phillips guided the Lions to the highest end of season ranking in program Division I history at No. 100 nationally this season. He also helped the program produce NCAA Tournament individual qualifiers in each of the last two years and secure a National Golf Invitational appearance.

North Alabama collected six tournament victories under Phillips, while four players earned All ASUN honors. The Lions finished fourth at the 2024 to 25 ASUN Championship, the best conference finish in program history.

Before North Alabama, Phillips spent two seasons as head coach at Division II Cameron University. During his tenure, Cameron advanced to two NCAA Regionals and produced four all conference selections, two conference freshmen of the year honorees, and one academic player of the year recipient. Phillips also earned conference coach of the year honors during the 2021 to 22 season.

Phillips previously worked with the Carolinas PGA Section as Tournament Administrator and also spent time with the Golf Coaches Association of America managing tournament operations for the GCAA Amateur Golf Series. His Division I coaching experience also includes time as an assistant coach at Ohio University.

Phillips replaces Murray Rudisill, who retired after 51 years leading the Old Dominion men’s golf program.
