Illinois Leads After Round One at Big Ten Men’s Golf Championship

The Big Ten Men’s Golf Championship opened Friday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon, with Illinois taking the early lead after the first round.

Illinois finished Round One at 1 under to sit alone atop the team leaderboard. UCLA and Washington are tied for second at 1 over, while Nebraska holds fourth at 4 over. Minnesota and Northwestern are tied for fifth at 5 over, followed by Rutgers at 7 over and Michigan at 8 over. Oregon and Maryland round out the top 10 at 10 over and 11 over.

In the individual race, three players share the lead at 3 under. Northwestern’s Jeremy Chen, Illinois’ Freddie Turnell, and UCLA’s Josh Kim each carded opening rounds of 69 to set the pace.

Illinois’ Max Herendeen and Washington’s Emil Borrestuen Herstad are tied for fourth at 2 under. A group tied for sixth at 1 under includes Ohio State’s Vaughn Harber, UCLA’s Baylor Larrabee, Southern California’s Jaden Dumdumaya, Minnesota’s Chun Ta Wu, and Nebraska’s Jackson Benge.

Round Two continues Saturday as teams look to position themselves heading into the final day of stroke play.
