Hammond developed into one of the top junior players in the country before arriving at Duke. Her junior career included 11 AJGA victories, international team experience and opportunities to compete against professionals.

Her father, Tom, has worked as a golf instructor for decades and played a significant role in her development. Hammond told CGN that even from Duke, she can send her father a swing video and quickly receive feedback on what she needs to work on. Pasted text

Hammond eventually chose Duke after considering approximately 20 programs. She said the combination of academics, the history of Duke Women’s Golf and the opportunity to learn from the coaching staff made the program stand out. Pasted text

Winning Against the Professionals

Hammond entered college already knowing what it felt like to win against professional competition.

At the 2025 Greater Toledo Classic, she posted rounds of 66, 66 and 69 to finish at 12 under 201 and become the eighth amateur in Epson Tour history to win an event.

The victory came at Highland Meadows, where Hammond had previously made her LPGA debut. She described the Epson Tour title as a major confidence boost and credited the support of her family and the local crowd for making the experience particularly meaningful. Pasted text

Hammond also reflected on the pressure of closing out the victory. After a bogey on No. 16 eliminated her one shot advantage, she needed a birdie on one of the final two holes. With her father serving as her caddie, Hammond handled the pressure and completed one of the biggest victories of her young career. Pasted text

Historic Duke Debut

Hammond carried that experience directly into college golf.

In her first tournament for Duke, she finished the Folds of Honor Collegiate at 6 under 210, sharing medalist honors with Florida State’s Haruhi Nakatani.

Hammond said she entered the tournament without placing significant expectations on herself. Instead, she focused on enjoying the experience and contributing to the team. During the final round, her attention was as much on Duke’s position on the leaderboard as her own. Pasted text

The victory placed Hammond alongside Amanda Blumenherst and Candy Hannemann as Duke freshmen who won in their collegiate debuts.

Playing for the Team

The transition to college has changed Hammond’s perspective on competition. At the Folds of Honor Collegiate, she focused on Duke’s position and what she could do to help the team rather than solely on her individual result. Pasted text

Freshman Season Goals

CGN Angle

Hammond entered Duke with experience well beyond that of a typical college freshman.

She had already won 11 AJGA events, represented the United States internationally, competed on the LPGA Tour and defeated professionals to win on the Epson Tour. Her college career has started in similar fashion, with Hammond winning in her first appearance for Duke.

The next stage of her development will center on translating that extensive individual experience into the team environment of college golf while continuing to develop her game and pursue an education at Duke.
