Former Auburn standout Jackson Koivun earned his first PGA TOUR victory Sunday, defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three strokes at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
Koivun closed with a bogey free 5 under 66 to finish at a tournament record 25 under 259. The victory came in just his third PGA TOUR start since turning professional. Scheffler finished second at 22 under after a final round 63.
Koivun Converts 54 Hole Lead
A third round 61 gave Koivun a three stroke advantage entering Sunday.
The 21 year old maintained control during the final round, playing without a bogey for the second consecutive day. A key par save at No. 9 helped preserve his advantage before he added birdies on the back nine to finish three clear of Scheffler.
Koivun’s 25 under total broke the previous 3M Open tournament record of 24 under set by Lee Hodges in 2023.
Fast Start to Professional Career
The victory continued Koivun’s quick transition from college golf to the professional level.
After missing the cut at the John Deere Classic, Koivun tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship before winning in Minnesota. He earned $1.584 million for the victory and moved 124 positions to No. 70 in the FedExCup standings with two regular season events remaining.
Koivun turned professional following an Auburn career that included an NCAA team championship and an NCAA career scoring average record of 68.89.
Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips and Denny McCarthy finished tied for third at 20 under.
