North Alabama has named Matt Terry as the new head coach of its men’s golf program, the school announced Monday.
Terry arrives in Florence after spending the last nine seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he guided the Bulldogs to multiple NCAA Division I Regional appearances. Most recently, Niilo Maki Petaja advanced to regionals as an individual in 2025. During the 2025 and 2026 season, Louisiana Tech also recorded the lowest round in program history at the Conference USA Championship with an 8 under 280.
Before Louisiana Tech, Terry spent 15 seasons at Troy and led both the men’s and women’s programs for 11 years. Under his leadership, Troy’s men’s team advanced to three consecutive NCAA Regionals from 2015 through 2017 and captured the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Championship, the program’s first conference title as a league member.
Terry also coached at Shelton State Community College from 2000 through 2002, leading the Buccaneers to three national tournament appearances and a national championship in 2002.
A native of Moulton, Alabama, Terry returns to North Alabama with ties to the university through his family. His wife, Dixie McCreless Terry, was a two sport student athlete at North Alabama in softball and volleyball.
He takes over a North Alabama program that has been one of the department’s most successful programs and will now look to build on that tradition in the ASUN Conference.
