Miami sophomore Scarlett Schremmer captured the Southern Women’s Amateur Championship after defeating Coastal Carolina freshman Alana Kutt in a playoff at Savannah Golf Club in Savannah, Georgia.
Schremmer finished the 54 hole championship at 1 under par 215 following rounds of 71, 69, and 75. Kutt matched the total at 215 after rounds of 72, 72, and 71, setting up a playoff between the two players.
After opening her final round with a double bogey, Schremmer responded with birdies on holes two and four before holding her position near the top of the leaderboard throughout the remainder of the round. Kutt charged into contention with five birdies during her final round to force extra holes.
The playoff returned to the 18th hole, where both players made par on the first extra hole. On the second playoff hole, Schremmer recovered from a missed fairway with a shot that finished six feet from the hole before converting the birdie putt to secure the title.
Raegan Denton of Australia, an incoming LSU freshman, finished third at even par 216 and earned Low Junior honors.
The victory adds to an amateur résumé that includes two appearances in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, a championship at the Alabama Women’s Amateur, and representing the United States in the Junior Solheim Cup.
